johnburkenewThis week I’m stoked to welcome my good friend John Burke to the blog. John is the lead pastor at Gateway Church in Austin, TX (yep, he’s also my pastor), and the author of Mud and the Masterpiece, which officially releases this week! I’m really excited about this book ~ in fact, I believe it’s one of the most important books for Christians to be written in decades. I hope leaders everywhere will read it. See the end of John’s post for info on how you can snag a copy, plus a whole bunch of other great stuff too!

“Our first job is to see correctly who we are, and then to act on it. That will probably take more courage than to be Mother Teresa. To be really faithful to that truth is utterly difficult and takes immense courage and humility…The most courageous thing we will ever do is to bear humbly the mystery of our own reality. That’s everybody’s greatest cross.” ~ Richard Rohr

Another amazing BraveHeart Intensive weekend just happened. Fourteen men awakened to their True Identity and the Mission they are called to fulfill in the world.

Here’s what some of them said about the experience:

Top 5 Posts of 2011

“Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because in the last analysis all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace.” ~ Frederick Buechner

Well it’s year’s end, the time when leaders take stock of the year that’s past and refine the course for the year to come. As a part of my own review, I’m taking a look back at the blog posts that garnered the most attention in 2012. For those who might have missed them on the first pass, I thought I’d share the list with you.

So here they are, my top 5 most popular posts from 2011:

Blessings and grace on you and your journey in the coming year!

“Tell me…do you not feel a spirit stirring within you that longs to know, to do, and to dare, to hold converse with the great world of thought, and hold before you some high and noble object to which the vigor of your mind and the strength of your arm may be given? Do you not have longings like these, which you breathe to no one, and which you feel must be heeded, or you will pass through life unsatisfied and regretful? I am sure you have them, and they will forever cling round your heart till you obey their mandate. They are the voices of that nature which God has given you, and which, when obeyed, will bless you and your fellow men. ~ James A. Garfield, in a letter to a friend

Destiny Project Women

“The gift of presence is a rare and beautiful gift. To come unguarded, undistracted, and be fully present and fully engaged with the one whom we are with. Have you noticed in reading the Gospels that people enjoyed being around Jesus? They wanted to be near him – to share a meal, take a walk, have a lingering conversation. It was the gift of his presence. When you were with him, you felt he was offering you his heart. When we offer our unguarded presence, we live like Jesus. And we invite others to do the same.” ~ Stasi & John Eldredge (from Captivating)

Fifteen women recently gathered to experience a Destiny Project Retreat along the banks of the Guadalupe River in the Central Texas Hill Country. Here’s what they had to say about it:

“Don’t let fear, anxiety or anything else keep you from this weekend if you feel God calling your heart. He showed up for me in amazing, beautiful and unexpected ways, even though I came doubting I’d even catch a glimpse of Him.” ~ Heather

“Destiny Project is a great process for getting more in tune with who God created you to be and His vision for your life.” ~ Jessica

“Time with these sisters spent avidly pursuing deeper relationship with God and each other was such a gift in itself. I know myself in ways I could not have expected without taking the step of faith to join them.”> ~ Renee

“The Destiny Project has given me a beautiful gift of being seen and known by other women. This gift is precious and something I will carry with me always.” ~ Brandie

“This is a unique process that allows each member to benefit from the combined strength and love of the entire group. I feel encouraged, and strengthened with specific steps to take to live my life in a more God-honoring way.” ~ Jayne

“This unique experience combined all aspects of my life that I wanted to touch but couldn’t get there on my own. Whether you have no expectations, high or low expectations, you will be surprised!”~ Lucy

New Destiny Project Retreats are being scheduled all the time. Just click here to join our mailing list, and we’ll let you know when and where the next one will be held.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” ~ Mary Oliver

“This changes everything.” When I heard Steve say this, my heart lit up.

Along with a small cohort of other men, Steve was one of the participants in the recent BraveHeart Intensive Weekend held in Hunt, Texas. His words came in response to a question I asked the men about how weekend impacted them. As awesome as his words were, the look of excitement on his face said even more.

And he wasn’t the only one. Here’s what some of the other men had to say about the experience:

“Not knowing what to expect or any of the men attending, I was amazed that my heart and desires were reawakened from the numbness my life had fallen into because of my new brothers! I am going back into my world ready for bold action again!” — Scoti W.

“Initiation into manhood is something few of us get in modern culture. The BraveHeart Intensive jumpstarts that process.” — Ray H.

“The BraveHeart Intensive is a catalytic experience that beckons every man to not only dare to dream but also to live out a life of extraordinary courage as a beacon of hope for generations of men.” — Dave H.

“BraveHeart is the best experience I’ve had to discover and define my identity and on top of that BraveHeart provides amazing tools to handle the lies when they creep back in.”— Brian Z.

“A great place to wake from your spiritual slumber and move you to recapture your godly, masculine heart.” — Ted K.

“After 15+ years of full time ministry, no other experience, retreat, class or conference has given such clarity to my calling and the challenges of my soul. A must for men to become initiated into manhood and who God has called them to be.” — Brian R.

More BraveHeart Intensives are on the schedule for the months ahead, both in Texas and in Colorado. Each is limited to only 15 men, so if you or someone you know would be interested in joining us for a future weekend, don’t hesitate to contact me for more info and/or sign up.
